United Against Malaria corporate partners met in Tanzania last week to advance the role of the private sector in malaria control, building on top-level support from the Prime Minister, who recently invited 32 new companies to become Malaria Safe.
This World Malaria Day, United Against Malaria partners old and new reached out to employees and communities across Tanzania, where approximately 60,000 malaria-related deaths occur each year.
In a display of public sector support for malaria control efforts in Tanzania, top government leaders launched the Malaria Safe program in Dar es Salaam on November 29, in collaboration with the NMCP. The event heralded a new level of commitment and collaboration among United Against Malaria partners at the national level.
Malaria is an international problem, but efforts to control it are often national in scope. To fill in these gaps and help raise awareness across borders, the United Against Malaria campaign has reenforced international football matches and tournaments with strategic messaging sanctioned by the Confederation of African Football and some of Africa's biggest multi-national companies.
